February, 2012 ~ Public PNDC Practice Session
How Can We Stop Giving Negative People so Much Power?
We tend to give people who act in cold, manipulative, hostile, and/or withholding ways too much control and power in many kinds of interactions. They may direct and/or undermine the agenda of a meeting, transform the positive energy created by a productive problem solving discussion into one of discouragement, or throw a wet blanket on an otherwise wonderful family gathering or party. Just one negative person often has the power to impact the mood of a single person or a whole group.
In this practice session, we'll look first at how and why we have given negative people, even those who are a "weak link" in the group, so much power. Then we'll practice using non-defensive methods to diminish or even eliminate their demoralizing impact on one-to-one relationsihps and on group morale, creativity and cohesiveness. In some cases, the person will simply no longer gain power by using a destructive process (and may even withdraw from the group). In other cases, the he/she will shift their attitude and become more positive. Registration . . .

The SELF Workshop
Based on the Self Evaluation Learning Formula Developed by Sharon Strand Ellison
Workshop Description: In many self-measurement systems, while the goal is to help people understand both their own and other peoples interaction "styles," too often see the self-selected personality characteristics that showed up strongest in their profile as their inherent nature, just "who" they are. In the SELF Workshop, participants will work with this measurement system I have created to gain a picture This workshop is based on Sharon Strand Ellison's Personality Measurement. Learning to use the SELF Profile, participants will evaluate their own defensive and non-defensive strengths and weaknesses, bringing key patterns to light, and then create a plan of action for change. All the information is about characteristics and attitudes that can be changed—eliminated or strengthened—in ways that build your character and integrity. More . . .

Giving Feedback: Naming Behavior Patterns Using a Story Form that Promotes Insight and Change
Co-Presenters: Trish Nugent, J.D. & Sharon Strand Ellison
Workshop Description: In this workshop, participants will learn how to use a process for making observations about behavior in “story” form. Receiving feedback in this way often prompts people to feel understood rather than judged, allowing them to gain spontaneous insight into their emotions, beliefs and reasoning. For clients and professionals alike, this insight prompts understanding of systemic patterns. Individuals often then become motivated to change key attitudes and behaviors, leading to a more transformational problem-solving process.
