Powerful Non-Defensive Communication
Course Outline

About the basic PNDC workshop:

In this workshop, we'll:

  • Demonstrate how we have traditionally, in various cultures, used the rules of war as the foundation for our verbal interactions. Thus we become defensive easily-whenever we feel a need to protect ourselves. We cause many power struggles and much pain, even with those we love most.

  • Practice methods for non-defensive communication which have far more power to resolve conflict and enhance creativity.

The War Model

You will learn to:

  • Understand how and why defensiveness and power struggle are so pervasive and have the qualities of addiction

  • Identify six defensive modes we use for "self-protection" and/or retaliation-which actually damage our self-esteem and accelerate conflict.

  • Recognize the six specific ways we communicate which cause us to become manipulative, controlling, and judgmental

The Powerful, Non-Defensive Communication Model

You will learn to:

  • Protect yourself without ever having to be defensive, even with people who are treating you disrespectfully

  • Develop skill in using 8 formats for Non-Defensive Communication which give you the ability to speak with openness, clarity, confidence, honesty, respect, and spontaneity.

Using this communication process, you can increase the likelihood of having greater intimacy with your partner, and/or enhance your parenting skills, strengthening family solidarity. You can also make your friendships more fulfilling , as well as enhancing your creative expression and professional performance.
